Asking for Money

Recently, I found myself in a meeting centered on development and fundraising. It became clear that not enough personal solicitation had taken place and people, regardless of education and stature, seemed generally apprehensive to ask for money for fear of rejection. As an entrepreneur, I need to ask for money all the time. I don’t get a regular paycheck like an employee would. I have to generate the income myself. The only way to do this is by asking for the money. Is it comfortable? No, not usually. Is it scary? Yes, typically. Does it get easier over time? Yes, it does. Much like learning how to play the piano or riding a bicycle, practice makes perfect. Well, almost. I live by the motto: Recognize the fear and do it anyways! What about you? Are you afraid to ask for money? Have you asked for a discount lately? When is the last time you asked for a raise? Yes, we are in a recession, but this shouldn’t stop you from asking for what you are worth!
